For my final project at RISD and our final project of the year, we focused on the impacts of black culture on society and the inverse effects of society on black culture through footwear, apparel, and sculpture.
In collaboration with Beyonce Armstrong, a junior in painting at Rhode Island School of Design, we curated, built, and hosted a pop up event for the Providence community.
As designers and artists, we always look for unique ways to activate spaces, products, and canvases. this project gave us the creative freedom and ability to explore our options and ultimately come up with an amazing result that accomplished our original missions of intent.
Above is a video that served as a compilation of all the documentation throughout the scope of the project. We were able to bring the creative community at RISD a step closer to the creative community in Providence.
We were also able to highlight the importance of black art, culture, and spaces. The need for representation of black creatives in the art and design industry is necessary and this project gave us an opportunity to prove that.
